Question:

What financial aid can I get during the Summer?

I WANT to take Summer classes online, but I can't afford it. I JUST started working my Summer job, but I need to pay rent, grocceries, gas, etc. I wouldn't have the money by the time Summer B Session rolled around. My Mom can't help me at ALL. She can barely afford to pay my car insurance. My older brother is paying for my health insurance. Is there any way I can get financial aid for the Summer? I live in the state of Florida and attend UCF in Orlando. I have an appointment with my adcademin advisor tomorrow. I am going to be a Sophomore come Fall 2008.

  1. i think the economy is really bad right now because i go to valencia and they ran out of schlorship money for the summer since last october...i know that wasn't helping..but maybe u could try fastweb.com they have lots of different schlorships available...

  2. There is no such thing as a "summer financial aid application".  Summer falls under the academic year and depending on the school, is a trailer or header for that academic year.

Most students will utilize all of their funding for the year in the fall/spring semesters leaving no aid available for the summer.  If you were eligible for Pell grant funding you would likely be eligible for a portion of that.  Otherwise your options are to borrow to pay the tuition, or pay out of pocket or through a payment plan.

Your best bet may be to take the summer off for school and focus on working and making money to live on until you start back in the fall.

  3. Well, you could fill out the separate summer financial aid application with your school, and if you haven't tapped out your yearly amount of what they can award you in state or federal pell grants, than you might be able to attend summer classes on that money; otherwise, without loans, it will be quite hard to come up with scholarship funds in this short amount of time.  If it turns out that you cannot get any type of funding, I know it will be a let down, but then you could work full time instead of part time and make more money this summer- look on the bright side of that- make the best of a bad situation, if the need arises.
