I have a garden bench that I have had for 2 or 3 seasons. I believe that I used some sort of tongue oil on it initially. What type of weather protectant is best for this?? (I am cleaning and sanding it...)

Can I use something that is used to protect wooden decks?

  1. Go to Sherwin williams and get some "cuprinol"...I am a 37 year experienced painter  and use this product on many items..They have many products that are made for each specific job needed..also You can use a marine spar var...that is what most people with teak on thier luxury boats use..This is a UK site, but this product is readily available in the USA as well..

  2. I really like linseed oil - goggle both linseed and tongue oil - the commercial water repellent c**p has never worked for more than one season, but they sure get more press.

  3. I know of a product that my husband uses on his furniture that he makes, it's called "rain coat". I don't know if you can get it everywhere, we're in Australia. It is really good as it protects from the rain and it retains the natural look of the grain, just highlights it and keeps it looking great out in the weather.
