Hi. Ages ago I bough a samsung VP-D361 and I have an Acer Aspire Desktop. I would like to put my film onto my computer so I can put it on dvd and I dont really know what I need. I gather that I need a firewire cable. My comp has a 1394 (?) thingy in the back of it so I'm assuming that I can get a firewire cable to do it but I dont know what pins I need or how I find out what I've got. Is it 4-4, 6-6, 4-6?? Also, will I need any software to put it on the comp or can i just plug n' go? I've got nero 8...can i use that at all for anything? Thanks for your help, Casey xx

  1. All MiniDV camcorders have a 4 pin firewire socket.  If the firewire socket in your PC is the same you'll need a 4 pin to 4 pin cable.  If they're not the same you'll need the more common 4 pin to 6 pin.

Once everything's connected you can capture and edit the video with Windows Movie Maker (it should already be on your PC), save it as DV-AVI (it's under Save on My Computer, Best quality show more choices, Other settings) and then write it to DVD using DVD Flick. You can probably create the DVD with Nero as well - try them both and see which you prefer.

  2. There's a guide to using Firewire with DV camcorders on SimplyDV, which is a uk camcorder site. See this page http://www.simplydv.co.uk/info-base/page...
