What is the right type of firewire to use for uploading video from my minidv camera to computer? My computer is a Windows XP laptop and my camera JVC miniDV.

There are three firewires, but I don't know which one to use.

4 pin to 4pin 6'

6 pin to 4pin 6'

6 pin to 6pin 6'

Which one should I use? Thanks!

  1. I agree with iridflare...

BUT: Just gtting the cable may not be enough. Does your laptop even have a firewire port? Windows XP is the Operating System - which manufacturer made the hardware? If it does have a firewire port, you would know which cable to get. If it does not, you need to add one... hopefully the computer has a PCMCIA slot available:

  2. All MiniDV camcorders have a 4 pin socket, so #3's a non-starter.  Most computers use a 6 pin socket so it's probably #2.  BUT, some laptops use a 4 pin socket, so it could be #1 - have a look at the sockets on the camcorder and the laptop.  If they're the same, it's 4 pin to 4 pin, if they're different it's 4 pin to 6 pin.

    BTW, the difference isn''t subtle.
