What fish are safe to put in an aquarium? I'm buying this fish tank: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3635104. Also, what's safe to put in the aquarium? Any other tips?

  1. bettas only. i would use betta fish food. theyre the only ones to live i there.

edit you cant place any fishes in there only bettas becase fishes will get stressed if they dont haave the right tank.

  2. In a small tank like that you could have live plants with fresh water shrimp. It will still need to be filtered and have some water changed each week but shrimp can be very colorful and entertaining. Some of the best to start off with are the cherry shrimp/

  3. It is a 2.5 gallon tank and is pretty much useless if you are going to have fish live for many years.

Go to Petsmart a 10 gallon kit with heater/filter/hood lighting is about $50.

    A better aquarium that that.

Expect 1 to no fish to live in that aquarium happily.

  4. a 2.5 gallon.. betta..or guppies,acouple..

  5. well what type of an aquarium is it?

Most fish need a tropical tank with heaters, filters...

    "all sorts of fish"

might not be a good idea... a 10 gallon tank can really only hold about 7 or 8 fish if you want them to be happy and healthy... it also depends on what kind of fish.

And that tank is.. really.... very small.. so 1 or 2 fish max.

You need to ask someone who works in a pet store.. NOT wal-mart... dont buy fish from them here always sick, and not taken care of...

Go to a petsmart, or a super pet and ask lots of questions so you dont end up killing your pets.

  6. In that tank really only a single betta could live in there. that is how I started out with a betta in a small tank.

Then I got a 10 gallon tank and started my first community tank

then i got a 30 gallon tank and have another community

I have had my betta for a year now! Just make sure there is a filter and a heater...they will live a lot healthier life! Good luck, and remember to do research before buying a fish so you don't end up making a mistake and wasting money :)

  7. i had 2 swordtail in a tank like that, but one died=[ so i got a platie, u can get like 2 small fish that wont get very big, or one bigger one

  8. I have same size tank at my office.

I have only a black phantom tetra which I like very much.  They have long fin.  Not long like betta but less artificial.

    In the tank I have...

    Black sand

    Drift wood ($8 at petoco)

Java moss (stick to drift wood)

Java Fern (stick to drift wood)

    These can find at Petoco.

I bought the tank because I don't have enough space at my office.  If you have space, larger tank is much better.  You could have more fish and the water quality could be stable.  Water quality of smaller tank changed easily with over feed and water change because of the small volume of water.

And the air pump which come with the tank makes constant noise.  You may be better to avoid putting the tank at your bed room.  Filter with water pump almost no noise.  I'm using water pump.
