  1. You could put a few guppies in there. But for 5 gallons, that is all I would put in there - no more.

  2. The only thing you can put in there from the fish you listed are the African Dwarf Frog and 1-2 male Guppies.

Yes, you'll need a filter and heater for ANY living fish (but you don't need a heater for Goldfish).

Danios need to be in schools of 5 or more, and 5 gallons won't cut it for a school. Plus they're really active and may slam into the glass.

Definitely not Discus, since they grow up to 6-7" length AND width, and require a 20 gallon high tank.

Another option is a Betta. They're relatively cheap (but they still need a filter and heater) and can survive for years in a 5 gallon tank.

NO Goldfish at all since they grow up to a foot long. Enough said ;)

    E-mail me for any questions!

  3. You can't do very much with a 5 gallon tank.

Rule of thumb for fish in a tank is for every inch of fish, one gallon of water. (It's important to look into how big the fish will be, since just about all fish at the store are young and not full size)

The only thing you could really do are some Guppies or maybe the frog. I wouldn't do both. (and yes, you'd need a heater for those, which would probably run you 5$ to 10$) For the guppies, i wouldn't get more than four. Get one male, and the rest females. Less fighting this way. And hey! They might even have babies!

The danios are shoaling fish, and require 5 or more of their species otherwise they dont' last long. Discus get about 6 inches, and require REALLY good water quality... Can't really get either of these, especially not the Discus....

Why not buy a 10 gallon or 20? You can do far more with them, and the cost isn't that much greater. Your only set back would be space, but it'd only be a foot or so bigger. Even if you got a 5 gallon tank for free, you'd still need to buy a filter, gravel, heater, ect. It'd honestly be a better deal to just buy a more expensive, bigger tank, and have more options.

Also, another imporant thing a lot of people don't realize is that bigger tanks are actually easier to keep. Small tanks get filled up with fish waste really fast, so you have to do lots of water changes and mantentnce. A bigger tank, however, has more space and stronger filstration, so it doesn't require as much work.

I would do more research and make sure that a 5 gallon tank is really what you want first :)!

    Good luck!

  4. Well my advice would be to get a bigger tank. They practically give away 10 gallons these days ( In chicago you can get one for about ten bucks) the bigger the tank the easier it is to manage because the more water you have the less likely it will be to change drastically and kill all your fish. Also this gives you more choices on fish you can keep. You will need a heater and a filter if keeping anything other than a goldfish. (goldfish DO need a filter though they have been kept without) You really need a water test kit also and need to learn how to CYCLE your fish tank. (google "fish tank cycle")   If for whatever reason you CANT afford a 10 gallon or bigger the only fish i would feel good about telling you to get is a betta fish and only one. Honestly if you cant afford a proper tank your never gonna be able to keep up with all the add ons you need to buy ( food, heater, filter, water conditioner, bacteria starter, etc) You would be better off just saving your money or giving it to the homeless lol. If you do get a bigger tank Zebra danios are hardy fish and can be kept by a beginner with relative ease. Keep them in odd number groups from 3 to 7 and you should be ok. they are really hardy fish. When buying fish always research their tank, food and water needs BEFORE you buy them. Good Luck

Discuss Cant be kept in a 20 gallon tank no matter the shape.

  5. In ur 5 gallon tank u can put 6-8 guppies and some swordtails and 1-2 platys and thats all. If u want u can put fancy guppies. But keep a limit dont overcrowd it. Yes u do need a heater all fish needs heater (except goldfish) and it is very essential for them. The temperature should be around 75 deggree farenheit means 25 degree celcius. Ur 5 gallon tank space is rather small but u should buy a 10 gallon tank as it will support many fish. No or yes, even peaceful fish fight against each other. Try to know which fish is compatible with which fish for example: goldfish is not compatible with guppies and platys are compatible with mollys. My suggestion is dont put any big fish in ur 5 gallon aquarium, not a small goldfish also. But u can keep blue neon guppies, sunrise guppies. Dont put discus, zebra dainos, african frog and leopard danios. Always do 20% water changes weekly to keep the water clean until u can buy bigger aquarium.

PS: DOnt keep fish more than 4 inches long as they wint fit in the aquarium and will create problems. DOr more information search the internet.
