  1. Plecos will sometimes eat on the bottom of the tank, but will suck on anything in the tank. Most grow large, and produce large amounts of waste, so they aren't suitable for small tanks. Here is the URL of a web-page with a common pleco picture:

Some better bottom dwellers would be Corydoras catfish.

  2. snails are not bottom eaters, they mess up your water and produces algae. It is better to get corycats or plecos, they are best bottom eater but they do not eat poops. Plecos can live in a cichlid(aggressive) aquarium.

I have a pleco at home, this is how it looks like, http://www.schillmania.com/photos/35mm/i...

  3. the best bottom feeder i ccan think of is a ghost shrimp but they can only live with small fish like mollies. I have a ghost shrimp and his name is Scampie and he eats everyrthing.

  4. yea clear water treatment wont hurt the snails just read the back of the bottle to make sure.

catfish, algea eaters and plecos are good bottom feeders!!

  5. clown loach, but they eat snails as well, so perhaps a pleco which will also eat algae and your plants!

  6. it all realy depends on the size of your tank.

corydora are an excelent option but need to be kept in a group of 6 or more as they are very social schooling fish...youd need 10+ gallons for a group that size but because of their bioload they only take up aprox 1/2 the space a fish of equal size would in terms fo gallonage.

plecos are a good choice for LARGE tanks.  there are some dwarf plecos out there like the bushynose and royals, but they are expensive and hard to find...

the pleco avialable in petstores need 55 gallons or more as they can grow up to 14 inches long!

most "catfish" will outgrow any tank under 55gallons so pictus, irridescant, raphael ect will need a HUGE tank...they also do not only stick to the bottom of the tank and will eat anythign that fits in their mouth.

redtailed and rainbow sharks are another option for LARGER tanks as they too need 55 gallons or larger!

if your looking for ALGEA eaters, the otto cat is a good choice...they will patrol your tank eating any and ALL algea but like cory need to be kept in a school of at least 3...

chinese algea eaters are good too but need 29 gallons or larger!

as a side note...snails do NOT make algea!

snails EAT algea, there only a problem when their breeding gets out of hand!
