Question:

What fish filter to get?

I'm replacing the filter for a 29 gal tank and was wondering what kind of filter I should get. Do you think the regular external 30 gal Whisper or the new kind of Whisper filter (EX30)?

Also, is the EX30 able to operate with regular whisper cartridges?

  1. i have never had a problem with whisper but you need a bigger one, like a whisper 50 or 60. the cartridges are a pain but it works and goldfish make a huge mess as they get bigger! Ive got a whisper 60 along with a rena XP4 on one of my tanks and they both work beautifully. hope this helps somewhat...

  2. I wouldn’t get either one.  Look into an Aqua Clear 50, you will be much more happy with this filter.  Stronger pump, more room for media, and greater media flexibility.

  3. then you don't want a whisper you want an aquaclear you don't replace the filter in the aquiaclear you clean it it is a sponge that will last over 10 years and if you want activated carbon you can add that or you can add biobeads that you rince real well they may cost a bit more in the begining than the whisper but in the end with the filter pads the whisper will cost you 100 times more

  4. Stay away from whisper and cartridges. Hagan Aqua clear filters are stronger and the filter media is cleanable. They're a little more expensive but you make it up in savings by not having to replace cartridges all the time. You can even buy bulk carbon and refill your own  bag.

    You'll need a Aqua Clear 50 for a 29gal.

You can't get cheaper than no catridges at all.

What part of no cartridge don't you understand.
