What flooring should we put in our kitchen?

Right now we have a low pile g;lued on carpet in the kitchen. It is over 10 years old (per previous owner) and is very dirty. It needs replaced.

We have already install laminate flooring in the family room. We have bought enough to put in the dinning room, kitchen and hall way. now I am having second thought because I know of someone else who had a refrigerator water line break and now they have to replace 1/3 of the floor.

So should we stick with the laminate, go with a new vinyl or replace it with a low pile glued on carpet like what is on it now?

Also we are fixing this house up to sell in the next few months so we are not needing something for "our long term Benefit" We need sonthing that will help us sell to house.

Thanks!!

  1. First off if it is not real wood, it is ugly and fake looking. There is no substitute for real wood, and buyers will notice. Don't put real wood in the kitchen, because it will just make the rest of the wood look even more fake. Carpet in the kitchen makes no sense, so your only other choices are lanolium, or tile.

  2. Laminate. Just make sure the installer (or you) silicones between the laminate and the wall around the fridge, dishwasher, and sink.

  3. Since you are planning on selling the house & already have enough laminate. Do the laminate.

  4. Laminated floor.

Vinyl just isn't that nice to me in a kitchen. And carpet?!

No way. Nobody puts a carpet in their kitchen.

  5. Check out the "flooring types" page on the following website -

    http://www.building-your-green-home.com/...

It links to 15 different pages on flooring options!  There are lots of pictures and info on everything from bamboo, vinyl, carpet, linoleum, laminate, hardwood - you name it! I think it will help you make a decision to be able to see all your options in one place.

    Hope this helps!

  6. The laminate floor.  I had it my old house and loved it, besides you already bought it.

If you did have a water line issue in the kitchen you would most likely have to replace half the floor anyway.

  7. Hi, You already have the laminate so you might as well put that down. Most flooring except for tile will suffer damage from an unfortunate accident like that if it is not discovered right away and fixed. I would not put carpet in a kitchen there are just too many spills and it is not an easy surface to wipe up. Hope this helps.

  8. laminate.  Definately.

I would not have bought the house I have now had it had carpet in the kitchen.  Carpet is not something you want in your kitchen.

  9. If you were staying there, go with a good vinyl.

If you're selling it, laminate will help.

  10. Honey, carpet hasn't been done in a kitchen since the 70's.  It certainly wouldn't sell your home.  If you can't afford hardwoods or stone, then finish the kitchen with the laminates you have done elsewhere or you won't sell.  Actually anything would be an improvement over carpet but the laminate would at least look like this year instead of the 70's.
