What flourescent uv light do i buy for a bearded dragon?

What is the BEST flourescent uv tube out there for bearded dragons?

Is it better to get the repti-sun 5.0 or 10.0 for a bearded dragon???????? why???

Some of the repti-suns have different watts, is it better to have a higher or lower watt?

Is it true that the repti-sun 10.0 reaches 20 inches?

Please answer all my question?!?!

Thank you!

  1. well beardies come from Australia there they get alot of uv (something to do with the Ozone) i would say 10 is better also 20inches is incorrect due to its high output its uv rays reach further but like all uv's there strength is diminished they realistically should be 6 inches from the basking spot

  2. Most are effective at 12 inches. The intensity of the rays decreases the further from the bulb. The type of bulb (fluorescent, fluorescent compact, etc), number of bulbs used, brand( there are lights that produce UV that are not designed for reptiles but can still be used), rating (2.0,5.0,8.0,10.0), and light fixture (with /out reflectors) all can

effect the distance and intensity of the UV rays at those distances. You Would need a UV meter to actually check the measurement. Being a desert dwelling species, the 10.0 is the better choose because it has a higher percentage of UVb output.

Here are some links on UV lighting and test of different bulbs
