We have these really pretty looking dark violet flowers in our back yard. My father-in-law tells me they're sweet peas but we would like to know for sure what they are. I have included a link to the picture of one of them. Can anyone identify the flower? Many thanks in advance!

  1. They are a wild pansy.

  2. wild pansy, viola, johnny jump up , its all in the pansy family so call it what you like , I like johnny jump up because of the name this is a annual that self seeds after the flower is done blooming there is a little ball in the center of the flower when it gets dry enough the ball pops and little tiny seeds come out and they just continue to multiply. But look at the picture doesnt it look like it is smiling at you thats why I like them. All the plants in the pansy family like cooler weather in fact some times the plant will go dormant in the heat but as soon as weather cools down will start producing flowers again-anything in the pansy family is a staple flower in any flower bed.
