Question:

What flowers are best for growing in a cubicle?

Note here that I am asking about flowers, not just plants. The preference is for the flowers to survive well without too much work and to be colorful (especially purple). I've had a bonsai or two die on me because they like much more sun than I can provide in my cubicle. I have a 60 watt incandescent plant bulb.

If you've used the plant that you suggest yourself also light and watering instructions from experience would be appreciated.

Thanks,

  1. I hear your pain when it comes to bonsai. They can be very particular. This site may shed some light on them, just for interest.

I have successfully grown hibiscus indoors and they have bloomed usually in spring. There are many colours and I kept them in filtered light, watering them about once every six or seven days.

  2. I would say a phalaenopsis orchid. They are known to survive well indoors under artificial lighting. You can get them in a variety of colors. You can also get small or big size flowers.

  3. Orchids. As long as you have some amount of sunlight, they're happy. And absolutely gorgeous.

Hmm... there are cacti that have flowers... they don't need anything except a little water once a month or so.

There are obviously other ones, but cacti are for people who tend to kill things... (no disrespect), and orchids... orchids are just wonderful.

Depends on what kind you have/get, but orchids generally need sun (but not direct sunlight, it's too much) just about daily... the plant light might do the trick... and water/green tea once a week to two weeks.

Some smell good, others can hang from the ceiling... they're all exotic... listen to me, I sound like a orchid-saleswoman... but they really are awesome!

(that's what I have... this second pict... I can't pronounce it, but it's great and has bloomed for an entire year now!) ... and trust me, I am really bad at remembering to water/care for plants, however much I love them. :-)
