  1. Orchard flowers are very nice and are suitable.

However, a lot of people lay flowers that their loved one once bought, my Grandma loved white lilies, so I lay them on her grave.

  2. I would put whatever they liked most when alive.

  3. roses esp white or yellow ones are nice

  4. Fresh flowers in a cemetery vase?  Whatever the deceased liked best.

Flowers planted into the ground?  Something drought tolerant---and appropriate to the sun at the site.  Also keep in mind that it should not require any trimming or pruning.

For a sunny spot, I would choose to plant Madagascar Periwinkle <Vinca>

For shade, Impatiens would probably be a good choice.

  5. if its a grave that is in your care, that is, that its someone very close to you, consider planting bulbs which emerge at different times of the year, snowdrops come up first followed by crocus, followed by daffodils, next tulips, a bulb company could inform you as to summer bulbs and autumn and winter, if its not a grave in your care could you give a small pack of bulbs to the nearest and dearest and ask if its ok to plant them i cant imagine anyone being offended.

  6. ochard

  7. Unlike most people, I don't put flowers on graves.  Cut flowers will die quickly, and live flowers in pots, unless constantly tended to, may die quickly also.  Then the maintenance people in the cemetery must throw them away.

I try to put something that characterizes what the person liked.  For a car buff who died in his 20's, I put a little red model car on his grave.  For my father, who worked on the railroad all his life, I put a railroad spike.  For my grandfather who loved his Chihuahua Poochie, I put a little plastic Chihuahua.

Often I don't leave anything at all.  I simply sit by the grave and think about them.

One alternative is silk flowers.  Be sure to choose ones that, when they fade, won't look old and tattered.

  8. carnations and roses really are the best, because the rabbits seem to eat the rest- especially chrysanthemums -

  9. Hello, I have to admit that I hate it when we are supposed to put a certain type of flower on the grave of our loved ones.  You should put whatever relates to the person buried.  I put carnations on my nan's grave cos that's what she liked and my mum loves sunflowers so that's what I'll put on her grave but I have to say I never spend a lot on flowers when a loved one dies I prefer to donate money to what caused their death.

  10. Whatever real flowers you like the most and those that may have been the favorites of the deceased.  Don't use artificial flowers.
