  1. Personally I have always been drawn to Daffodils, they are very, very easy to maintain (only plant them once, and have been coming back for almost 5 years now- and they multiply on  there own)

If you need some help with finding some suggestions, I just a relatively new site that I have had some success with.

  2. You don' t say what part of the world you are growing flowers.    I  like pansies.  They can take a little frost  or hail and still come back blooming all summer.

  3. Wave petunias <particularly Tidal Wave> is the most  prolific, carefree flowering annual I know, for the sun.  They need some water initially, while the roots are getting settled. But will reward you until a hard frost.

For a shady spot, you can't beat Impatiens.  Again, keep moist for the first few weeks til they take off...then forget about them.

Neither of these plants require any pruning or fertilizing <tho, obviously they will be even more lush, if you use a time release fertilizer at planting time.>
