  1. Wallflowers  and forget me nots look good under tulips, providing a good contrast and scent.

Consider dwarf varieties of daffodils,tete-a-tete and angels tears, for example.

Snowdrops and snowflakes will provide early colour,as will crocus.Crocus are best scattered in bold drifts,if the site is suitable they'll self seed and multiply.

Hyacinth bulbs,in hardy varieties may also be planted for spring flowering and it's not to late to plant "Naked Ladies"(Colchiciums) to flower this autumn.

Suggest an inexpensive soil testing kit and where bulbs are to remain in position undisturbed dress the soil with

bone meal or hoof and horn, lightly raked in.

  2. Try calling a nearby florist and they can answer your questions. I found a huge online list of Minnesota local florists. http://www.localfloristsonline.com/Minne... I suggest visiting one close to where you live.

  3. All spring blooming bulbs such as tulips and daffodils should be planted in the autumn. They probably should be planted in late September or early October in your area. Also if you want to plant tuberous irises such as bearded,Japanese or Siberian types you should plant those no later than September. And don't forget small bulbs like crocuses and grape hyacinths. Crocuses will bloom very early when everything is still gray and barren. Grape hyacinths will bloom with your tulips and daffodils and will really help show then off. I advise planting all the bulbs you have space and money for. You won't regret it.

  4. You can plant anything now that has a spring bloom time - bulbs will come up first - then to follow, columbines and lilacs and azalea's - you can buy perennials now on clearance and they will have the fall and winter to settle in giving you something in the spring.

I like to have flowers all the time and I usually have a dull period around July and August....(need to fill in that area myself)

But look for what blooms in April or May and plant it now.

www.parksseed.com or www.parkseed.com will give a list of spring bloomers too.
