Question:

What fluid do I put in my Bayliner Capri trim drive pump? It is a 1990 with the 85 hp L drive?

I just bought this Bayliner Capri with the 85 hp L drive i/o engine. The original owner said all works fine, but outdrive would not move up or down. I checked the fluid tank and it is nearly empty. My other Bayliner has trim tabs on it that uses transmission fluid in it, but the Capri has a much thicker, clearer, petroleum smelling fluid in it. What is correct fluid to use in this boat? This is the trim for the actual outdrive, not for trim tabs.

  1. you can use atf but I prefer trim and tilt fluid because of the additives. when you say it wont move does the pump run? is there a trailer lock installed on the drive? if the drive is in the UP position the resivoir will not be full as fluid is up in the cylinders and if you fill it up it may overflow when unit trims down!

  2. gmc is correct, there are several things to check once you have fluid, does the trim motor run or have power go to it or the switch check that first.
