  1. Here are the basics for "jail" food.

Adult menu's usually consist of between 2800 and 3200 calories per day. California has Title 15 which demands that milk is served three times per day. Calcium enhanced punch pc's meet some of this demand.

Turkey based lunch meats are usually the norm due to different religious reasons, most facilities do not serve pork products. Beef, chicken and turkey products are served either in a single portion or in a casserole of some type. There is usually at least one meal out of the daily three that is hot.

Salads, produce and other items are purchased and served from the same vendors as local restaurants. Most foods are prepared on site to save on costs. The food served may not be the same as what the individual may have prepared at home, however it is nutritious in content, and the cooks usually do try to make it flavorful.
