  1. Tea, coffee, orange juice.

  2. Keep it to soft drinks - easier all round.

  3. Leave out the alcohol and give them the same as the kids.  That way they can get more involved.

Jelly and icecream is always good for both kids and adults.

  4. Like everyone has said - no alcohol.

You could try making different punches, for the adults, a sort of non-alcoholic Pimms.

  5. I don't think alcohol's right when people are in charge of lots of small children - so much could go wrong. Make a really nice fruit punch with no alcohol in, or non-alcoholic cocktails. Plus in my experience kids parties are usually in the afternoon, which isn't really a time for drinking.

  6. For a first birthday party, you don't generally have alcohol.  But, if you are, then keep it simple - beer and maybe a bottle of wine.  Don't go overboard, just provide enough for refreshments.  It is a kids party, after all, and most adults will understand that.

  7. just hand out normal canapes and what not and then just have what the kids have, also, if you have alchohol you mite get dddrrrrruuuunnnnkkk and so would not be fully responsible for your kids

congrats on da first b-day parpy!!!

  8. We have always had alcohol at our family kid's parties. We also separate our "kid party" from our family/close friends' parties. This way we do not have to worry about this issue at all. When it is just the children there is no need for alcohol. When we have the family over, we usually have appetizers and a full dinner so we have wine, beer, and sometimes a champagne punch. If you are a family that has wine or beer with dinner I would not worry about having it at your child's party. I am sure that you are not drunk every evening at dinner so this really should not be any different. You and your family are probably mature enough to handle a glass of wine. If you choose not to have alcohol at your party do not forget to have bottled water as some people do not drink soft drinks.

For food it really depends on what you want to serve, budget, and general feeling. We always have a sit down meal (flank steak is always a good bet), but the rest of the family always does buffet style and they usually cater it (salad, pasta, fried chicken, Italian beef... all the standards). Good luck planning!

  9. meatballs

  10. Haha, I'm on the other side.  I don't have kids and alcohol certainly makes a birthday party more enjoyable...

I would make some type of lemonade with a kick - raspberry or strawberry vodka.  Everyone likes lemonade.  Just make sure you keep it away from the kids.

For food, what about a sandwich tray, chips/dips, and veggies?  Keep it simple...

  11. That annoys me about some parents.  It is a kids party so why would you want to drink alcohol?

Drink soft drinks with the kids.  It is their day not yours.
