  1. Ah la grande cuisine, nothing in particular, but navarin of lamb, rissoles, ragout, bouillabaisse are some of the traditional items to be found on menus where the locals eat

  2. isnt it snails?-x

  3. frog legs and snail!

  4. Crêpes.

    Escargots (snails)

    Huitres (oysters)

Le biftek (steak - beware if you don't like it still frozen in the middle ask for medium)

Most other French food. Pommes dauphinoises (sliced potatoes in a cheese sauce cooked in the oven)

Coq au Vin (chicken in wine)

Go to the area around the Gare du Nord and you'll find all kinds of 'ethnic' food.

  5. Onions and Garlic..lol

  6. Expensive food.

  7. Mainly French food.

  8. In Paris you will find many different styles of cooking. Restaurant food comes in different styles, depending on how elegant the restaurant is. There are many different types of eating establishments, not all of which have equivalents in othe countries. Finally, if you eat in somebody's home, you will find that home cooking may be entirely different from meals you purchase.

Paris is also famous for specialty shops selling many different kinds of foods, such as cheeses, chocolates, and different shops for different types of baked goods.

  9. French cuisine!

I would say meat or snails!

  10. Paris is most famous for it's haute cuisine - luxury foods; dishes made with much cream & butter.  Elegant sauces and expensive cuts of meat or offal.  They also enjoy very delecate and refined desserts.

You can sometimes stumble onto a small cafe that will serve you peasant foods such as casseroles, stews, sausages etc, the foods of the provinces.

Unfortunately there is also a huge amount of over-priced food to match over-blown ego's as well, when dining out in Paris.  Many think they are the next Albert or Michel Roux and are clearly not anywhere near that level.  But that being said, even the truckers at truck stops eat amazing meals - far superior to what you will find in most diners in the States or chip shops in London.  It's all relative.

If you truly want to know what Paris foods are being offered, research dining web-sites that specalize in Paris restaurants to see current menus and what you would find were you look for dinner tonight.

    Cheers

  23. Most of the same foods that are available in North America can also be found in Paris. Crepes are a common snack that is inexpensive and available on almost every street corner. One can even say that crepe stands are to Paris as hot dog stands are to New York. Bread (baguettes) and wine are also common snacks. Ham and cheese crepes, croissants, or sandwiches are a common lunch. For dinner, beef, cheesy potatoes, escargot, fondu, and cheese platters are common menu options. However, popular American options such as french fries and pizza are easily found in Paris, as well. There is also no shortage of fast food chains like McDonalds in Paris either. In short, your meals while in Paris can be as authentic or unauthentic to classical French cuisine as you choose to make them.

  24. Cheese, bread & fish, rare steak, seafood (especially scallops and oysters), lobster, duck, pastries, and of course the old stereotypically french food - snails, frogs legs and loads of garlic. And wine with everything.

  25. Boeuf Bourguignon, similar to a beef stew, Poulet Breton : Roast chicken in cream sauce, Roquefort Cambalou : Melted blue cheese .. are three favourites at the local french restaurant ...

  26. frogs and snails and things like that

    eeehhh

  27. The most widely recognisable food to come from France is probably the croissant.
