  1. go halfers on it, or at least offer

I recommend something simply like mini sandwiches and baby pickles. We had a game after the food where we melted mini chocolate bars in diapers (like p**p) and people had to smell/taste it to see what kind it was. It was really funny.

  2. I have a baby shower guide on my website that can help you out with your baby shower questions.  IN the meantime....the time of day plays greatly into what type of food to serve (whether it is snacks, a meal, dessert only....).

Hostess should pay.  Honoree is not supposed to pay, so says etiquette.

  3. My host took care of every thing, We had alittle bit of every thing to please everyone and most of all to please me cuz my cravings were weird. We had hoggies, pizza, veggie tray, rice beans, and meat. Make sure you get a variety of drinks like soda, juice and the best water!

  4. I too am planning a baby shower.. .and its all up to you...the expecting mother. I have looked at so many websites, but the one i found most helpful was www.babycenter.com. If you just search "baby showers" in the corner. It will come up with so many ideas. My fiance and i are having a coed shower because this is our first child and we are BOTH wanting to be involved. We are going to invite just family and close friends and have a cookout sorta thing. We are going to make the main food and have our hostess just get the sides and desserts. (it helps that the hostess in this case is going to be my parents and sister who live in a different city). BUT the stereotypical baby shower has changed. This is going to be about YOU and YOUR baby... so just do it the way you want and don't let ANYONE get in the way.

    GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN!

  5. Usually the person throwing the baby shower buys the food.

We always just had like a veggie tray with dips.

    Cheese/crackers.

    Finger sandwiches.

Fruit platter and of couse cake!!!

    Finger foods.

  6. the honoree buys it generally, but it wouldnt hurt if you have the spare money to help out a bit. i had chips, dip, mints, and little sub sandwich wraps, pretzels, juice, soda, coffee, and peanuts.

  7. for my shower my sunts and cousins payed for the food drinks, and decorations . they had winnie the pooh cake , veggie platter with dip , chips , preztels and salami cream cheese rolls( i craved these ) . after the shower they had a spaghetti dinner so that the men could join in on the fun .

  8. The hostess bought all the food for every baby shower I've ever had/been invited to/thrown.

When I threw my best friend a shower, we had snacky foods - small sandwiches, meatballs, lil' smokies, a pasta salad, veggie tray, chips and dip, etc.

  9. the hostess/hostesses typically pay for all party expenses.  The honoree typically sits back and enjoys her party as the honored guest.  I've been to baby showers that were full blown 4 course meals and I've been to showers where finger foods and snacks were served.  the formality and budget is up to the host.  The shower I co-hosted for my girlfriend was at her sister's house, it was at night, we catered in hot food and there were over 50 people.  If I could plan my ideal shower, it would be in the afternoon, 20-25 people, yummy sandwiches, some h'or dourves and chips & pretzels.

  10. I have never heard of a baby shower being given and paid for by the mother to be! Is this some new thing? If it is it smacks very much of

begging for gifts. Usually the shower is given in honour of the mother

to be by a family member or friend who in turn pays for all food, drink

and decorations. Usually I served small sandwiches, pickles, chips,

and had a special cake made with appropriate decorations. I also

had a large cardboard box made up and decorated to hold the gifts prior to opening and then to put them in to take home.
