  1. leafy green veggies like spinach

  2. Onions have iron that our bodies can absorb easily.  The iron in Spinach isn't.

  3. Iron Oxide

  4. Raisins, spinach, lentils, black beans, and Organic Food Bars.

  5. Anemia is a common problem among vegetarians, especially women. There are vegetable foods that contain some iron (though not nearly as much as meats, especially liver.) But the human body doesn't absorb iron readily, and the iron compounds in animal products are better absorbed.

Watch out for spinach in particular. It does contain some iron, but it also contains oxalate, which binds not only the iron in the spinach but other iron it may find one its way through you.

  6. There are more than enough sources of iron in vegetarian foods.

There's more to it than that though.

There are many interesting things to learn about supplying your body with iron.

Consuming more vitamin C increases iron absorption

    Caffeine can hinder absorption

  7. whole beans and multi-vitamins!

  8. wheat bread,pasta

  9. Dried beans and dark green leafy vegetables are especially good sources of iron, even better on a per calorie basis than meat. Iron absorption is increased markedly by eating foods containing vitamin C along with foods containing iron. Vegetarians do not have a higher incidence of iron deficiency than do meat eaters.

  10. celery, broccoli, spinach(i like spinach uncooked much more then cooked) also break fast cerael

  11. Beans, spinach- cook in a cast iron pot/skillet.

Edit: I've been veg/vegan for 15 years and haven't been anemic  once- even through three pregnancies. I can't tell you how many times my OB's lectured and threatened me, only to have to eat their words. My kids have never been anemic.

It doesn't happen to everyone. Most of the time, it's genetic, the rest of the time, you have to really be eating poorly to develop it.

  12. I made some Swiss Chard today and it was yummy!  It is loaded with iron...  Much like spinach I guess but may have even more in it than spinach...  Also try Bok Choy...  Haven't tried it yet myself!
