there is also sea lettuce (Ulva fenestrata) and beach asparagus (Salicornia  virginica)

and agar a vegetarian alternative to gelatine. There is also carragheen from the coast of the UK, again used as a setting agent. Some other Japanese seaweeds include kombu and arame. That's not 15 but it's quite a lot.

    Good luck and healthy eating!

  4. Sushi does the green wrap is dried flattened seaweed

  5. There's obvious stuff... sushi etc...

However, the less obvious stuff is anything containing carrageenan - which is used as a thickener.

  6. Anything thickened like vanilla pudding, ice cream, sometimes lower fat cream products, can contain carrageenan, a seaweed thickener from carrageenan seaweed found off the coast of Ireland in the Irish Sea.

  7. I live in Korea and they love seaweed here!!!

Its used in Sushi which is actually Japanese

Koreans love it in Kimbab -which is like a sushi roll and comes in a whole bunch of different flavours but doesnt have any raw fish

also you can make seaweed soup!

Koreans also serve it in some bars like peanuts..so sort of as a side

Its also used to garnish a dish here called Bim-Bi Bap (I dont know about that spelling) but basically it;s different vegetables over rice. with red chili sauce!

    hope this helps!
