I'm so confused about feeding my daughter. She is almost 8 mo and just started 2nd foods. She likes the Gerber ones but hates the textures of the homemade ones. (I just started trying to make her food so the homemade thing is completely new to her. I am going to try for at least a week before I give up). I was wondering what comes after 2nd foods? Do I have to give her the gerber 3rd foods? Waht did you give your babies? When did they start table food and what did you give them? Thank you

  1. There is no need to necessarily do the gerber 3 foods.  Although it may be nice to have a few on hand for a quick easy food.  At 8 months.... you can begin giving her table foods.... and starting with soft finger goods, such as slices of melon or avocado or banana.... not mashes... just give it to her and see what she does.  Good table foods to start with are mashed potato's..... finely chopped pasta's, and just about anything that you are eat ting.... that is softer.  Usually if you try something and the baby can't handle it.... they will just gag it back up.  Best of luck to you..... and don't be scared.... eating is one of the most natural things in the world.  They know what to do.

  2. 3rd foods are a waste of money. She's ready to eat what you eat for dinner, just cut up. We started my daughter on soft foods like pasta, egg noodles, red sauce, fine diced chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, bread, and whatnot, just as long as it's easy to "chew" and swallow. She was born in december and by halloween she was completely on table foods and her bottles. At this point, the bottles are still her main source of nutrition, so as long as she gets her recommended amount of formula/breast milk, she's not going to go hungry. Now comes the fun learning phase :)

    Try the gerber graduates, we just cut them up a little more, the mini raviolis were a big hit, she'd feed herself and loved them.

    Good luck!

  4. Well what i did was i started my son on finger foods at 8 months of age. usually you're suppose to go through all the stage one and stage two foods for atleast two months.

    my son started at four months of age on stage one baby food, then at six months started stage two, then at 7 1/2-8months started finger foods. Your baby should be able to "chew" using his or her gums to mash foods. Your baby should also have a pretty good pincher grasp. The pincher grasp is the the ability to grab and hold objects between the thumb and the fore finger. If your baby has the fine motor skill to maneuver and grab and hold onto foods with the pincher grasp, then your baby is probably ready for finger foods.

    Fruits for Baby Finger Food - be sure to take out seeds!

    Fruits make great baby finger foods! Colorful and highly nutritious, small soft bits of fruit will have your baby's fingers pinching away for hours!

    * soft baked peaches - diced

    * small dices of ripe banana

    * small bits of ripe mango

    * dices of ripe pears

    * small dices of melon

    * small bits of avocado

    * squished blueberries

    * kiwi - diced small (seeds should be ok for baby over 10 months old)

    * small dices of mixed fruits for a "finger fruit salad

    Baby Finger Food Veggies- make sure veggies are cooked soft, peeled and de-seeded as needed!

    Like Fruits, Veggies make great baby finger foods!

    * soft baked sweet potato dices or sweet potato fries (see below for recipe)

    * soft baked white potato dices

    * small dices of soft cooked carrots

    * small dices of soft cooked peas

    * small dices of soft cooked broccoli

    * small bits of soft cooked green beans

    * small bits of soft baked butternut or acorn squash

    * small dices of soft cooked veggies mixed for a "veggie finger medley"

    keep in mind that your baby should only be offered finger foods that are soft, easily mashed and age appropriate!
