I found out my 15 month old is anemic and she hates the iron drops. What food or ideas can you give me to help her build her iron?

  1. If she likes yogurt Stoneyfield farms makes a toddler yogurt that has iron fortified baby cereal in it.  I gave it to my son all the time because I was afraid he might be anemic.  it comes in 6 packs and has a baby on the package.  Its also organic yogurt which is good, too.

  2. that's not a good question to rely on internet sources.  You should always consult a pediatrician when it involves the welfare of your child.  While some parents may think they know what is right, or say what seems to make sense to them, it might not be 100% right and your child will be the one to suffer.  Hope your child takes to her new special diet.

  3. beans any kind but children loves smashed pinto beans but preferably not the canned ones cook them at home it is very easy and they are rich in iron you can try also with green vegetables i don't know if your child will eat them you can try with cream of broccoli.

  4. My son is two and is also anemic and HATED the iron drops. He is also a very picky eater and eats nothing but chicken nuggets and a few other things. Cook in a cast iron skillet, chicken liver is HIGH HIGH HIGH in iron if you can get her to eat them. Any dark meat. If she is on whole milk cut back on it. You can also go to your local grocery store and look in the baby toddler aisle to check things out. Also try cheerios.

  5. they have different flavored prunes so you can try that

  6. Iron fortified cereals and meats!  For the meats, you could try little pieces of lunch meats or even hot dogs cut up very tiny.  I'd say spinach, but I know there's no way you're going to get a 15 month old to eat that!  :)

  7. Veggies that are dark green.

Can you put her drops into her food and she'll never know.

    Anemia should be treated asap.

  8. My daughter was anemic at the age of 16 months. Her hemoglobin was down to a 4!!!  After going through tests her anemic was from drinking milk all the time and not eating foods. The iron drops go good in a cup of juice. Do it when she don't see you, and she'll never know they are in there. It works. With in 2 weeks of Iron drops my daughters iron started going up. She was on iron drops for 6 months and has been good ever since. I hope the doctor did tell you to mix it with a juice, the vitamin C in the juice helps absorb the iron. Try cutting her down on milk also, if you read the label of a gallon of whole milk, there is no iron in there what so ever. That's where my mistake came from, I thought well she wont eat so it is good she's drinking milk. Good Luck, I know this can work for you!

  9. Cook for her in a cast-iron skillet whenever possible.

Dark meat from poultry is much higher in iron that white meat.

Red and game meat: beef, pork, venison.

    Spinach.

And my favorite:  Black strap molasses mixed into milk (or other things if you can find something).  Blackstrap molasses is the highly nutritious stuff they take out of sugar cane to make white table sugar.  Molasses is full of B vitamins, potassium, and a great source of iron.  I was an anemic child and my mother would give me this; I thought it was chocolate milk until I was about 10!  I still love it.  There are some other things you can cook with molasses, chiefly homemade baked beans and molasses or ginger cookies.  But mixed into milk uncooked is the best.
