What foods is the U.S. best known for ?

Like the French are known for baguettes and escargot , Italy is known for Spaghetti and Pizza and Mexico is known for tacos . But outside the U.S. what do people typically think of as American food ?

Steaks and beef.  One thing I saw in several high end restaurants when I was over seas was the huge gravitation to "Certified US Angus Beef", and it was expensive (Not that it was a great steak since they don't know how to grill).  In Singapore, due to mis-reading the menu, I had one of the worst 170$ 18 ounce steaks I've ever eaten.  American, Canadian and British beef producers are some of the only in the world that grain feed cattle to "finish" them prior to slaughter, making the meat more marbled and tender.  American beef also tends to have less of a "wild" flavor which makes people generally feel it has a more refined taste.  US beef in Japan actually sells for as much if not more than the famed Kobe beef in high end steak houses (partly because of overseas shipping of never frozen US prime beef cost.)

Good or bad America is known for the hamburger. I would recognize many other foods as being American, but the hamburger has gone around the world due to it's fast food companies who sell them. Mcdonald's has sold billions of the fast food burgers and maybe only french fries would be next on the plate. Culinary experts might point at the BBQ, steak, or even most entrees and dishes containing ground beef (hamburger) as U.S.A. in origin. But, the dollar here is the most telling factor,..people spend money all over this planet to eat hamburgers.

Either Southern Food (fried chicken and mashed potatoes) or Hamburger Helper.

My mom has a foreign student staying with her right now and made Hamburger Helper for dinner a little while back.  The next day the student asked to learn how to make it because it was "very special."  Haha.

well being that the U.S. is made up of all ethnicity's we take a little from each country and perfect them lol only kidding on the perfecting but id say we do allot of italian foods and we eat alot of chicken dishes

Apple Pie, Hotdogs, Hamburgers, Fries, Chili Cheese Fries, Tator Tots, Anything fried (like funnel cake, fried twinkies etc.)

I think the rest of the world thinks all that Americans eat is hamburgers, hot dogs, and french fries. I think that we should be known for barbecue. I don't know anywhere else in the world where there are so many types and styles of barbecue.

We barbecue everything from chicken, ribs, beef, to shrimp because we love grilling and the taste of barbecue sauce.
