My husbands favorite aunt passed away last night. I know they will be inundated with casseroles and what not but I am trying to think of something that will be forgotten but definitely needed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

  1. I'm very sorry for the loss. You have my condolences.  If he really doesn't want to eat big for now i would suggest soup stew as long as he gets to put something in his stomach. Again my condolences.

  2. You should ask your husband what his aunt's favorite dish was and bring that to the bereaving family.

  3. A little book would be nice to record all the names and address of who did what. also some thank you notes would be nice. As for food fried chicken feeds several and you can buy party packs at walmart with 50 pieces and slaw potato salad or other sides. You can buy this already cooked cheaper than you can cook it. A box of  filled with paper products is always nice to saves all the dish washing.Stick on labels for casserole dishes is nice to insure each person gets their dishes back.

  4. Deli meats & cheese platter with mini breads (mustard)

    Fruits

    Bakery Cookies

    Cake

    Drinks

    Tuna Salad

    Chicken Salad

    Shrimp Salad

    Cream Cheeses, Bagels & Lox

    Sorry for your loss.

  5. It's great that you're thoughtful enough to ask.  My father in law passed away last year and, you're right, we were inundated with casseroles and desserts.

The most useful thing someone brought us was bread, eggs, cereal, milk and soda.  We all thought that having the good sense to bring us soda during a hot summer was very thoughtful.

  6. Make some wraps. Use whatever filling you prefer. You don't need a knife and fork so they are easy to eat.
