  1. When I had my tonsils out I was advised to eat toast and rough foods like that. It stimulates the healing apparently.

Another tip I got which REALLY works is to gargle with an effervescent painkiller like aspirin. I got great relief from that almost instantly.

I'm curious how the ER gave you medicine though, if they haven't diagnosed whether it's bacterial or not. Medication for that would be completely different to a viral infection.

Anyway, I'm sorry you're feeling so rough. Get well soon.

  2. I feel your pain man. I had throat infections about twice a year from the time I was 4 until I was 20. Here's my suggestions:

    Stay away from:

Anything acidic (citrus, pineapple, tomatoes, etc)

Anything hard (you learned even bread can be rough)

Dairy. Milk coats your throat and produces phlegm. More phlegm means more coughing, and I don't need to tell you why that's bad.

    Eat the following:

    Apple sauce

    Jello

    Sorbet or italian ice

Lots of COOL (not cold, it can hurt too) drinks. Avoid soda. Gatorade, juices that aren't acidic, water, and iced tea are good choices.

You may also want to ask your parents to puree (put in the blender) any foods they are having. It's gonna look gross, but it tastes the same and hurts less.

Hope that helps, and good luck man.

  3. The infection has caused a sore on the inside of your throat and as food slides past the sore, it is going to hurt.  Life is tough.  Until the medication clears up the infection the sore will not heal.  Eat very little, gargle with lots of warm salted water(the washing and killing action of the salt will speed up the healing process).  You don't have to eat jello.  I find fruit(apples, banana, oranges and the like) cooled in the fridge seem to go down less hurtfully and quells a hungry stomach.

  4. I always eat chicken noodle soup because it's noted for increasing teh bodies ability to fight off infection.

  5. some soups?
