  1. You can pretty much eat anything you want, just avoid all animal flesh, including poultry, game, fish, shellfish and crustacean, and slaughter by-products! The main foods include water and drinks, fruits especially berries, dried fruits, pears, bananas, tropical fruits, & watermelon, vegetables especially kelp, kale, dried nori, spirulina, peas, broccoli, potato (with peel), & dark-green leafy vegetables such as spinach, nuts (especially walnuts & almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, etc), beans (black, pinto, baked, kidney, etc), seeds (especially flaxseeds, but also sunflower, pumpkin, sesame, hemp, etc), soy products (tofu, TVP, tempeh, fortified soy milk, miso, etc.), pulses, whole grains, quinoa, seiten, nutritional yeast, cereals, chickpea, seaweed, lentils, wheat germ, & vegetable, hemp, and flaxseed oils. Veg*an brand foods such as Amy's, Tofurky, Light Life, Yves, etc have a lot of good food options.

Oh and also have your mom read The China Study and watch Earthlings.

  2. soy and tofu are huge sources of protein. There are many brands that make meatless burgers, hotdogs, chicken nuggets, meatballs etc. they taste really good and have a great source of protein and nutrients. Im also a vegetarian.

And good choice in being a veg. ;)

  3. I suggest first,letting your mother read www.goveg.com

Even if she will not go vegetarian, she will at least better understand your reasons for being one. I eat rice, beans, soy, tofu, and fake meat (like from morning star, etc) and they have protein and vitamins in them. There are alot of sites for vegetarians that suggest what to eat,in fact,I think www.goveg.com might even have some suggestions on there!

  4. Beans, soy, nuts, green veggies, whole grains like in cereal and bread

  5. Being a vegetarian is NOT stupid, it's a good, healthy, humane thing to be!  You can eat beans, soy meat, soy milk and regular milk, cheese, eggs, and all of the beautiful, delicious vegetables you can get your hands on!  Good luck!

  6. beans, legumes, soy

  7. You do not need any specialty or expensive food that is aimed at vegetarians. ANY supermarket will carry EVERYTHING that you need.

A healthy diet would be based on a variety of breads, pastas, wholes grains, rice, cereals, beans, peas, lentils, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies.

Dark green leafy vegetables such as mustard, collards and kale are some of the most important.
