  1. To answer your question the top 3 unoffical times for players who have played in the NFL are as follows

    1. Ted Ginn Jr 4.06

    2. Alexander Wright 4.09

    3. Michael Bennet 4.13

Though 40 yard dash time means very little in the NFL Jerry Rice ran a 4.7 and look at how things turned out. Emmitt Smith ran a 4.8 and same goes for him. Some of those fast players havent done much becuase they rely on speed only and well everyone else in the NFl is fast and plays smart

  2. Michael Bennett 4.13s

Drafted by the Vikings, played for the Saints, played for the Chiefs......now plays for Tampa Bay Buccaneers

    Darrell Green 4.09s

although these times are contested and were probably not recorded according to accepted standards

However here are some other notable 40 yard times

Usain Bolt...........3 minute even 40 yard dash time

Peyton Manning..........can throw a ball 40 yards in under a minute

Jesus...............can run 40 yards in 1 second ONLY IF YOU BELIEVE!

current listing OFFICIALLY RECORDED and PROPERLY TIMED fastest 40 yard times

Darrell Green (4.09 in Training Camp)

Laveranues Coles (4.17 at Florida State University, 4.29 according to the Jets' media guide)

Ahman Green (4.17 at pre-Draft workout in Nebraska)

Joey Galloway (4.18 at his official Ohio State Pro Day on February 26, 1994.)

    Deion Sanders (4.18 in Dallas)

Donte Stallworth (4.22 at 2003 Tennessee Pro Day)

Willie Parker (4.23 at 2004 North Carolina Pro Day)

Chris Johnson (4.24 at 2008 NFL Combine)

Randy Moss (4.25 at Marshall University)

Ted Ginn, Jr. (4.27 at The Ohio State University)

Dexter Jackson (4.27 at 2008 NFL combine)

Champ Bailey (4.28 at 1999 NFL Combine)

Devin Hester (4.27 and a 4.38 at Miami Pro Day, 4.45 @ 2006 NFL Combine)

Reggie Bush (4.33 at University of Southern California on Pro Day 2006)

Fabian Washington (4.29 at NFL combine.)

However the 40 yard dash is a poorly recorded, poorly standardized, overemphasized measurement of that really measures nothing accurately

Jerry Rice ran a slow 40 time...........and so did Emmitt Smith

Should football coaches measure 40 times while players are in full gear???

Should 40 times be hand timed by stopwatch or electronically timed by stationary sensing lasers...........a difference of .5 seconds is AT STAKE HERE!

Is it necessary for a 300+ pound nose tackle run a 40 yard dash???

Once again the 40 yard dash is pretty much useless

  3. i dunno but if that bolt guy from jamaica ran it, it would be about a 3.5 which is just absolutely ridiculous, someone sign that man.

  4. I love answering this question.

All the 4.1's 4.0's you see are pretty inaccurate.

***The fastest time ever at the NFL combine since they started using semi-electric timing (which isn' t a completely accurate timing method) was CHRIS JOHNSON this year, 4.24. Before that it was Fabian Washington who ran something like a 4.25/4.29 depending on the source.***

And the older times are especially inaccurate because they didn't even have partially electric timing back then so when you here about Bo Jackson's 4.1, Herschel Walker 4.2, etc just remember those times aren't even close to as accurate as what they use now-a-days because they were all hand-timed. In track they usually add .24 seconds to anytime hand-timed race to account for the delay it takes for human reaction when using a stopwatch. ***The NFL combine started using partially electric timing back in 1999, so i don't consider anything before that reliable.***

Some other info, ***according to ESPN researchers LSU RB/Sprinter TRINDON HOLLIDAY has run faster than any collegiate sprinter/football player ever. That includes names like DEION SANDERS, BOB HAYES, Randy Moss, Bo Jackson, and yes DARRELL GREEN.***

I really think Holliday if he decides to pursue football and goes to the NFL combine will run something like a 4.1. He has literally the best acceleration i've ever seen. Every race he runs he gets out of the blocks way faster then everyone, struggles with top speed but from 0-45 meters he's probably the fastest guy in the world.

    Other times to consider:

***DARRELL GREEN ran a 4.09 and 4.125 although both are unofficial and poorly documented . In Darrell Green's defense he's the only person ever to go undefeated in the NFL's fastest man competition, he won it 4 times. The competition though took place only at the pro bowl and between players that had made it to the pro bowl so not all of the fastest players in the NFL were represented.***

Michael Bennett ran a 4.13 at his pro day at the University of Wisconsin, again unofficial.

***DEION SANDERS ran an OFFICIAL 4.25 at the NFL combine in 1989, just prior to the use of electric timing.****

***DEVIN HESTER, since everyone knows who he is and who has ill-advisedly been referred to as the fastest player in the NFL right now, ran what I believe to be was a 4.32/4.38 40 yard dash according to the NFL Pro Day on nfl.com in 2005. Since then he says he ran a 4.27 at during that pro day, you be the judge of the time.***

***Other times that have been RUMORED but LACK any REPUTABLE EVIDENCE*** (i personally don't believe any of them and almost all of them were hand-timed):

Deangelo Hall 4.15 @ VT workout.

Ahman Green 4.19 @ a Pre-Draft workout at the University of Nebraska

Willie Parker 4.23 @ North Carolina Pro Day

    Willis McGahee 4.28 @ Miami pre-injury

    **************************************...

    CONCLUSION:

: But so far, in my eyes the fastest legitimate official (and i use official lightly unless it's Fully Automated Timing) has been 4.24 by Chris Johnson because the NFL didn't start using partially electric timing until 1999, since then Chris Johnson's 4.24 was that fastest documented time.

    **************************************...

As you can see the fastest 40 argument is a very controversial subject. So depending on what you think is a credible time it's between Darrell Green, Michael Bennett, Chris Johnson, Deion Sanders, Trindon Holliday, or Bo Jackson.

  5. Randall Williams is reported to have that fastest, so is D. Sanders.  Its ridiculous, nobody knows really

  6. I agree with Kyle that dude can fly. h**l he blew the world record out of the water and stopped running hard 3/4 of the way thru the race.

  7. Joey Galloway ran a 3.9 prior to being drafted by the Seattle Seahawks
