  1. A braking force. "For every action there is an eqaul and oposite reaction".

  2. "What force(s) act to stop the motion of an object?"

Question makes no sense the way you stated it.

Do you mean "What force(s) can act to stop the motion of an object?"

The answer is still somewhat vague. It depends on what the object is, why it is in motion, and how and if you want to stop it.

A car on the highway and the engine dies. Friction from the tires, and air resistance and friction from the brakes (if applied) will combine to stop it.

A baseball is hit. Wind resistance slows it down, and then it hits something, and the object it hits stops it.

A falling object is slowed by wind resistance and stops when it hits the ground.

    Hope this helps.

  3. the earth's gravity.
