I am 17 right now. Underage. Don't have a Driver's Licence yet. Can I, being underage, cash a USPS money order at a post office by myself and with what type of ID? I have my high school's ID with my name and picture. Also I have a passport and green card. Could I use that? Please I need an answer on this. I will get paid for something I sold by money order and I wanna make sure I can cash it !! Thanks!

  1. The passport is fine.  You may surprise the clerk, but that's all.

That said, how did you list/sell the item?  eBay and Craigslist both require that you be at least 18 to list items for sale.

  2. USPS says:

    14.3.3 Identification

When presenting a money order for payment, the customer seeking payment must sign in the presence of a USPS employee. If the customer is not known to the employee, suitable identification can be required. The USPS may refuse payment on any money order when the identity of the customer seeking payment is not proved to the satisfaction of the employee.

So, in other words, you just need to show anything that "proves your identity" to the postal worker. School ID should be good enough, especially if it includes your signature.

  3. use a state ID
