I was searching on YouTube for some form of martial arts that interested me, and I came across one labeled "Karate" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqY03NW5cNE for you who might want to see what I'm meaning).. Anyhow, I'd really like to learn that form... is that really Karate or something else?

  1. it looks like XMA

    basically gymnastics

it looks nice but thats all

  2. Go find a school for stuntmen.

  3. none , if their teaching that stuff its not a martial arts class

  4. Parkour will teach you what you are looking for.

What you see on the video looks like XMA (extreme martial arts)

  5. If what interests you is the artistical and gymnastic aspect of martial arts , then I suggest you go for shaolin kung fu or XMA (xtreme martial arts)  , either one of those will focus on plenty of gymnastics combined with martial arts and weaponry.

  6. What you see those guys doing is called XMA (Extreme Martial Arts).  It's really more like gymnastics than combat martial arts.  They do lots of tricks and choreographed moves or forms (almost like dance).

This stuff is not at all practical in a fight, just so you know.  But it looks good on TV, and there's no question that the good practicioners are in shape.  But if you ever get in a fight, don't try running up a wall or standing on your hands.  :-)

  7. That could be called free running or parkour, they focus a lot on do running on walls and jumping from place to place. However parkour and free running are usually done in urban areas not dojos.

So it may be extreme martial arts most of the time it's done on soft flooring with mats.

  8. Par Kour

  9. Thats just gymnastics.

  10. To be perfectly honest, any style that flashy is gonna be useless in real fights.  Having said that, you should consider studying capoeira (hope that's spelled right).  It's similar to the style in that clip.
