  1. Depends, in Guadalajara you can get a really cheap taxi trip or pay 50 us cents to ride the subway which is fast and clean.

nicer than NY and Chicago's train system, I have seen both.

  2. Within the there little town they walk every where but when they need to go in the city they take buses or taxis it isn't that expensive to take a bus.  Well the town I go to every year in mexico the school is in the same town they live so they walk but most teens don't have cars there.

  3. Well, a $15.00 cab ride in the US costs about $4.00 down here, the bus usually runs about 50 cents, maybe $1.00 for a real long run. Everybody who has a car drives it so the traffic is really bad, often much faster to take the Metro in rush hour (25 cents!). And only the rich kids have cars, no middle class kids drive to high school! (But this is Mexico so their Mommies and Daddies drive them around until they are about 47 years old! - or get married.)

  4. Buses, peseras - small trucks outfitted with some seating in the bed that charge very little and run a certain route like a bus, taxis, and subways. Lots of walking too! Kids in HS in Mexico generally do not own cars, but there are the few.

  5. Americans talk so much c**p about mexico and then they end up retiring there like Michael..

  6. Michael is right on...and for sure...high school kids do NOT have cars or drive to school!

  7. The gap beteewn the " haves " and the " have not's " is great here. This is also key in answering your question.

The " haves " , middle class I guess you could say usually own a car if not two and is the prefered form of transportation. Much like elsewhere in the world.

No the majority - " have not's " - inter city travel is predominatly if not exclusivly large inter city buses . they operate much like the US Greyhound buses. Large , usually air conditioned buses with soft reclinable chairs and a toilet on board.

Day to day  for this class can be buses - privately run , old type of school buses. Here in Acapulco they pay a daily tax before running thier route and their are a ton of them . The paint color of the body determines its general area of town it runs in. Down in the city along the main drag they are blue. North and into residential - green. South end - yellow. All follow the same cool stripe patterns down the side with the various colors on the main body of the bus. What cool and unique is they all are decorated inside and out with a theme. Usually something like the following - Garfield , Snoopy , Bat Man , Cindirella , Ren and Stimpy ect. They are done for the children as much as the adults. The theme even carries to the inside and are just incredible with the air brushpaint scheme's and neon lights. I call them amusment park rides.

Cost is 4.50 pesos. They travel the same routes every day and usually you will get to know the driver if you use it everyday.

Second form is taxis - here in Acapulco 99% are VW bugs. Again with painted querter pnels to designate where its from. Here in Acapulco they are all blue with numbers on them for the govt to keep track of them. they dont really carry a theme like the buses - but there are tons and tons of them. I bet 75% of ALL cars you will see are the blue VW taxis so if you need the convienience and time is short you use a taxi. keep in mind they dont have $$ like Americans so a taxi is for convienience and speed.

High scholl kids do NOT drive cars . If they can afford them ( the family ) then mam and dad are the owners. I dont think Ive ever seen a high school student driving a car. They usually travel in thier groups having fun and laughing and ride buses. Their will bw various groups in the morning and evening , all in uniform and holding books waitind for the bus. they board the bus and just have fun joking and laughing and cutting up. They add alot to the ride as the usual fare is prople like me. Just getting to and from a destination and the kids are just being kids - enjoying spending time with thier friends.

Buses are 4.50 pesos - about 50 cents.

    Taxi's are negotiated but say 20 miles / 30 minute drive - 50 pesos - 5 US dollars

Reasons for the majority not having cars is the cost . Insurance is very expensive ( once you see thier diving habits here you will understand why ). Gas is expensive as we all know, and then the price of the car. Keep in mind the vast majority of the population only makes about 8 dollars a day. Yes 8 dollars a day. With the other forms so cheap they cant afford or really need a car. It's only for the very few " rich ' folk.....................

  8. Both. Many people drives its own car, many go on bus. In the region I am almost anyone has its own car (although it is old often).

It varies depending on the area of México. Regional differences are really huge, as example Nuevo León state (northern) has an average life standard as a developed country, while Oaxaca state is very poor.

  9. Bus, taxi, sub way, i rode a bus 50 miles round trip, every day for a week from zua zua & marin to monterrey , for $1.50 one way -taxi i go all over monterrey the most i ever paid was  $5.00.- sub way .35 per ride ?

  10. Most people take the bus, or they take taxis.  It usually socts about $2
