Question:

What format is best for windows movie maker?

I am looking at buying a video camera and I want to be able to edit the videos in movie maker. I know a couple of people who bought a video camera and then found that the videos were not compatible with movie maker - I don't want to end up in the same situation. The camera I am looking at has an SD card and records in MPEG4 format. Will that be suitable?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Possibly not  - there are different flavours of MPEG-4 (e.g. DivX, XviD, H.264) and I don't believe WMM can handle them all.  Try getting sample footage from the camcorder you're interested in  and see if it works.  Even if it works, MPEG-4 is a poor format for editing - stick with MiniDV if you want to be sure.

  2. I know for a fact that Movie Maker takes .MPG files. I've also tried importing .MPEG files, which have all worked. I don't know what an .MPEG4 is, but if .MPG & .MPEG both work, I'm sure that .MPEG4 will be fine, too. Good luck!

  3. I think .avi.... ^^
