What format should my file be for Ipod documents?

I have a 3rd generation ipod nano and I'm trying to put a word file under the notes section. I successfully put a word document in the section, but when I tried to open it it came up as a garbled mess of symbols. Does it have to be a specific format to open with Ipod/Itunes?

  1. If I remember right the best format for an iPod is .txt (Text File). This due to the fact that the iPod can't open rich formatted documents like ones with pictures and formatting like bold, italic etc. Saving your file as a .txt file will delete all those "extras" so make sure you have another copy of your file as as well.

    Hope this helps
