  1. First of all, you must be a resident of any of the 12 states that currently have legalized medical marijuana use; Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.

    Then, yes, you must get a reccomendation CARD from a physician. Some refer to it as a "green card." To do this you must go to a physician (which you might, somehow, want to try and find a marijuana friendly one) and tell him/her all your conditions and illnesses. If you're lucky, they will recommend marijuana to you and then have you apply for a green card (which usually cost around $200). If you're unlucky, they will just give you normal prescriptions for pharmaceuticals.

    Then, contrary to popular belief, you don't get a prescription or get it from your doctor. You will by then have your green card, allowing you to smoke store bought cannabis (yes, there ARE stores that sell medical cannabis).
