I would imagine that it depends where you live and how far you are willing to travel.  I sell insurance in Tucson Arizona to travel into Mexico and we get people from all over and a lot of people from Canada.  When they come thru us...most of them travel to Puerto Vallarta.  Mazatlan is another place.  Some like to travel the Baja which is 1000 miles to the tip ending in Cabo San Lucas.  If you are just going to take a short trip and not too far into Mexico then you might try Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point) about 3 hrs out of Tucson or San Carlos about 6 hrs out of Tucson (Scuba Divers love this place)  We do have people traveling all throughout Mexico without problems.  Good luck and have fun.

1. Mexico City. great museums, events all the time, theaters, good food.

2. Oaxaca. great food, neat constructions and murals, pyramid sites are close.

3. Puerto Escondido and/or Huatulco. excellent to grab a mezcal or pina colada and enjoy de sun of the beach.

4. Mayan Riviera (Cancún, Mérida, Tulum). you've heard this everywhere, it can get a little expensive if you only go to Cancún. Tulum and Mérida are cheaper.
