GIMP is good, but has a steep learning curve. Blender is also good along with Inkscape. A user friendly and free one is GetPaint: http://www.getpaint.net/

A very good Photo-Editing software available is Adobe PhotoShop, but only a 30-day trial for PhotoShop is available for free. To try it out go to http://www.adobe.com/downloads

A free alternative to PhotoShop is GIMP. While it is as powerful as PhotoShop, it's a bit harder to use. If you can't get your head around it, check some tutorials on YouTube:

well, you can download photofiltre and a free 30 day trial of paint shop pro. www.fotoflexer.com is a good place too.
