Question:

What fruit and veg are perennial (come back every year)?

Particularly I'd like to know if cucumbers, pumpkins and watermelons are? But what other fruit and veg can I plant that will come back in the spring? Thanks!

  2. Don't forget strawberries!  They are perennial in most zones.  And I've had a couple broccoli plants last 2 seasons.

  3. You need to replant those three every year. Generally, fruits that grow on trees that are hardy in your zone (verify zone with your local gardening center or look it up on google or wikipedia, "gardening zones) are perennial. Apples, peaches, pears, avocados, plums, bananas, figs, persimons, oranges, grapefruit, lemons, limes, kumquats, and several other fruits. For vegetables, you can count on asparagus to come back every year. Plant from root stock. Lots of herbs will come back every year if planted in the right zone -- sage, chamomile, oregano and mint are hardy to zone 5.
