Concerning bananas, the skin gets black much more rapidly when refrigerated, but the fruit inside will still be good, and stay firm and unbruised longer when refrigerated.

I don't know about the fruit itself, but banannas get brown and nasty looking  on the outside when put in the refrigerator.

Hi Maria,

Most all fruits will last longer with refrigeration; however, much of that has to do with the temperature.  Some fruits do not do well with the standard 42 degrees or so that most refrigerators run at.  Some of the fruits are refrigerated at higher temperatures than the average 42 degrees.

Bananas, apples, oranges, etc. are often shipped by railroad to the eastern states and Canada in refrigerated cars which help to extend the shelf life of fruits.
