  1. Tick ... tock   ... tick ... tock ... fall, and the first frost of the season is just around the corner.  There are no fruits that I am aware of that you can plant now and still get a harvest before winter sets in for good.  Vegetables are another matter.

Cold weather crops include lettuce, radishes, spinach, onions, and some other green type veggies.  If you live in southern Michigan, you need to get seed into the ground as soon as possible.  If you live in the northern part of the lower peninsula, or the upper peninsula, it is probably too late.  The four vegetables that I mentioned are very easy to grow and you should be able to start harvesting in mid October.  If you can find kale, swiss chard, broccoli, or brussel sprout seedlings in your local nursery, you might also be able to get a reasonable harvest of some, or all, of them.

If you decide to plant onions, go with seed instead of onion sets.  You will have fresh green onions for your thanksgiving table.

Good luck with your fall gardening.
