I intend to have a green house connecting to my house which will be built from cargo containers. This won't happen until I get the money to make it happen, but I am just curious as to if I can grown fruits or if I will have to go to the store to buy them. Thank you!

  1. Almost any kind of fruit tree is available in a dwarf variety.

You can save space by espaliering your tree.

In this technique rather then let the tree to grown in all directions you train the limbs to grown along a support(like a grape vine)

Beside holding the height down you can also grow them in a narrower space.

There are several books on the subject.

You can use this technique in a green house or outside.

You might want to grow the trees that grow well in your area outside and save your valuable green house space for the More exotic types.

you will also have to regulate the temperature of the green house(venting heat during the day and heating at night).

Keep in mind that different trees require different temperatures.

Another thing to consider is pollination.

some trees need to be pollinated by insects(bees/ butterflies)so you will have to give theses creatures access to the greenhouse.

The down side is that you also leave it accessible to the bad insects.

you will still have a lot of work trying to keep them down

Also keep in mind that the trees will still go through their standard growing cycles(don't expect them to fruit year round)

  2. if the climate of origin is closely simulated, one can grow anything on earth in a green house.

  3. Here's some things to consider with a small green house.(1.)They heat up and cool down very rapidly..not the ideal situation for fruits.(2.)The winter solace and the summer solace are paramount when it comes to location.(3.) Small green houses are good for starting seeds and over wintering some but not all plants.

I cant emphasize this enough but bigger is better in terms of a true green house @ lest 10' x 10'.Most fruits and berries do better when planted outdoors; strawberries,black/raspberries,grapes,mu... and so on.In all likely hood you will be limited to miniatures, herbs, grape tomatoes, and maybe strawberries.

  4. you might want to check into the amount of light each plant needs per day,  plants tend to grow when the days are getting longer and produce fruit when the day begin getting shorter, eventually loosing there leaves and going into hibernation when there is not enough light.

  5. Banana,Gova,Lemon,Orange.

  6. What a wonderful idea.  You must live in a place with the four seasons.  The only small fruit I can think of that does well in my yard is the "Little Cado", some call it the dwarf avocado whose fruits are not seasonal like the other popular brands.  The tree and fruit is smaller and the fruits do not get ripe until you pick it, so you can have avocados all  year around.

I would stay with tomatoes and beans first and then if you are confident enough take it to the bigger plants.

Since you have the space you should consider going into vermacasting to save on the fertilizer needed to upkeep your project.

  7. Berries, Beefsteak tomatoes ,WATERMELON
