right now I have 7.5 psi it seems to loose power at 5K rpm before I shift into 2nd gear, maybe lack of fuel? It has a 650 holley carb on it now. Thanks

  1. Unless you have modified a 318 or 360, I have never heard of a 380. As far as the pump, if you think that is the problem, try an electric one.

  2. a stock fuel pump will run any carburetor up to a 750 holley real good ,if you go to an electric one you,ll have to run a regulator on it other wise the pressure will be too much for the needle valve in the carb, and it will eventually cause a flooding condition on it,I'm running a 360 in  an old duster with and edelbrock 650 with electric pump cut down to 6.5 pounds of fuel pressure and it does good, but if you try and get above 7 pounds it tends to want to run rich on gas,and you cant keep the idle adjusted right,it sounds like you bought a crate engine, you might need to increase the size of the gas line coming from the gas tank on it, i had to do mine this way,the stock line was small, that may be the problem with it,either that or the timing is still a little off on it,good luck.

  3. You need to increase the size of the fuel line from the fuel tank to the pump. If it's a 5/16 inch line go to 3/8's inch, if it's a 3/8's go to a 1/2 inch.

A 380 horse engine needs a lot of fuel at 5000 RPM and you don't want to be running it lean.
