  1. Have them create anti-n**i or anti-Axis propaganda posters.

Have them each choose a positive event (i.e., the Danish resistance and others who helped the Jews escape) and write a news article about it.  Put it together in a newspaper using FrontPage Editor.

Have them create a Victory garden.

Let them make a Remembrance diarama for someone they've lost or someone in one of the stories you're reading.

  2. Try the Book Daniel's Story.  It is a grade 7 novel that fully explains the horror of the holocaust.  I agree with the others.  The holocaust should not be taught in a fun way.

  3. Fun activities regarding the Holocaust?   Why not give out n**i unforms and practice high stepping.

Do you realize you sound like a neo n**i?

  4. Fun? About the holocaust? What kind of class are you teaching, "Fun with Horror and Agony"? Sheesh.....:-(

  5. For Language Arts, have the students write a letter from the viewpoint of a person who is imprisoned. Or you can have them write a journal entry in response to the book Diary of Anne Frank. Holocaust was never "fun" but there are engaging ways to teach the horror of the Holocaust.

    Best wishes

  6. I did a unit where we wrote poetry about historical events and then did an in-class poetry slam.  A lot of slam poetry is written about social issues like racism, poverty, police brutality, etc.  They really enjoyed it.  A lot of them chose to write about the civil rights movement of the 1960's, but I had some pretty good poetry about the Holocaust, too.
