Question:

What fun things can I do with my horse?

I just got my license so I can now spend a lot of time with my horse! He is out in pasture all day long and then he's in a stall at night, I don't want him to think that every time I come out I'm going to ride him. I already groom him and he LOVES that! He loves trail rides so I go on those a lot, but I don't know, I just feel like we could have a stronger bond. But what are some other things I can do that are fun and he'll enjoy so I can build a super strong and loving bond with him!

Help! Thank you!

  1. do join up with him (its a type of lunging exercise) you should look it up. you could rie him bareback in his feild, you could take him to a lake (make sure that its not too deep and that the bottem is clear of sharp or dangerous stuff and you have permission) but dont do lake riding bareback, you could find out if any beaches allow horses at certain times and take him for a beach ride.. hope it helped

  2. It sounds like you're on the right track. Make sure when you bring him in you spend lots of time grooming him since he loves that. Do different things when you ride - trails, arena, bareback, jumping. Give him longs baths once a week or so - if he likes grooming he probably likes baths too? Every time you go to get him, bring a treat. This is a surefire way to get him to want to come to you. Teach him to follow you. Teach him to do tricks for you. Lots of attention and time are all you need to bond with your horse. It sounds like you're doing a good job of that :)

  3. well i think you need to spend more time on trail rides or even longer and give him  treats or even just spend time with him  in the stall and pet him or groom him.

  4. you can play the friendly game which is getting a rope and slowly swinging it over his neck which is like giving him a hug.

  5. you should try teaching him tricks such as "smle", "ashamed", "yes or no" it will be good quality time and teach him to trust you more and your friends will get a kick out of it!  if you need to know how to teach him these tricks e-mail me at miracletmoore!  hope that is a good idea!  also you should do different stuff with him sohe  won't get bored of the same old thing... like when you go out riding why not make your own path if the woods aren't too dense and then he will wonder where he is going and get all excited because he has never been there before!

  6. with my horse when it rains and the pastures are to wet i take him for a walk like a dog around the farm and let him eat some grass

also if he is calm and quiet you can ride him bareback but only if you are comfortable

also you can bring him an apple or carrots every time you come out to see him

  7. You can try showing, or bringing him fresh vegetables

  8. A fun thing to do, is teach your Horse tricks! Use rewards, as in counting, and bowing. Teach him to come when your out in the pasture!

  9. Go into the pasture with him and play tag.

You run around and eventually he'll get the concept of the game and he'll chase you.

Or you could take him in to the ring and lunge him, although it sounds like your on the right track doing what you're already doing.

Go on different trails and give him his head.

Ride bareback, do some jumping, and you could take him to shows.

Another way to build a bigger bond with him is to a join-up.

It works too. Chase him around the outside of the ring and don't let him in the center until his inside ear is ****** toward you and he lowers his head and makes chewing motions.

    Teach him new things too.

    Good luck.

  10. My favorite things to do with my QH who gets bored is, I put some barrels on there side, poles on there side, buckets, taros ect.. and have them go through or around them. It keeps him thinking and he never gets tired of it.  Well if you dont want to do that you could try hand grazing him, or give him weekly baths,

    Good luck!

  11. just let him graze grass while you pet him (have him on a lead rope)  to make it feel like he did a good job, work him for five minutes in the round pen (no riding!!!) then reward him with grass, that will make your bond stronger.. Does he trust you? can you back him up through a small gate? I know the arena gate at my barn is pretty small, and my horse trusts me enough to back him up through that, and then he learns trust me and the quicker he backs up, the quicker he gets out of

the arena wich means no more work! if your arena gate isn't that small, back your horse into his stall at the end of a work out. That will help your bond!!! Good luck!!

I forgot!!! play with him!!! when I run my horse chases me like he's playing tag!!! rub your horse all over and then run around with him!!! does he follow you in the pasture, thats a good sign!!!

  12. If hes good at loading, bring him to shows! don't ride him there

just take him around everywhere. its super duper fun!!!! take him into an arena when no one is there and just let him run around. play games with him

    haha hope i helped!

  13. Well you could work on training on the ground teaching him to respect you even if he already does there is always room for improvement! Also you should work on getting him more use to taking baths!  love horses and have several! Horses love attention and you even if you just go out there and talk to him and ride him and love him!! Hope you have fun with your horse!
