What funding options are available to us?

My partner wants to train to get out of unskilled, minimum wage work. He would like to train as a Driving Instructor or maybe do an HGV licence. Fees for both courses are around £2,000.

Most Training providers credit check before you can spread payments. and we'd fail that!

He cannot afford to give up work to study so will have to fit training in around his current 48 hours a week job.

We've been told that as he's not on benefits he can get no help from the Jobcentre and the only option is a Career Development Loan. But as we both have a terrible credit rating, due to years of financial problems, this is unlikely to be accepted as they come from High Street Banks who won't normally touch people like us.

We have no savings, family can't help and due to our poor credit rating we can't get credit cards or other loans.

Why is a young man of only 25 being denied the chance to better himself? He can get a £200 ILA from the Welsh Assembly but no help to pay the rest of the £1,800.
