What future can you see?

Question

It has been written in Sci-Fi novels that earth will either turn to a utopian society or through global warming or nuclear war will bring humanity down to struggling civilization.

What do you think is more likely and how soon do you believe we should expect such changes to occur?

I can only see into the future as far as my eyes can see into the distance. If I have my contact lenses in I can see further then if I dont.

Utopian society is a myth. No one religion or set of political ideals will ever be accepted throughout the world, thereby ensuring continuous strife. All-out nuclear war is also a little hard to accept. Smaller conflicts may erupt into small-scale nuclear engagements. We have witnessed huge global powers being gradually reduced in both power and influence over the past few centuries. I think we will eventually see countries trying to become self-sustaining so that they can close themselves off to the rest of the world (similar to Japan in the 1700-1800's).

Neither.

Global Warming will end up freezing the planet so much that we all go into a massive ice age and there will be no food or water left, power plants will not work and everyone will die of starvation or dehydration, or suicide because they know that the end of the world is coming.

Then, everything will be ice for a while as the Earth slowly recovers from the centuries of damage we have done to it and new bacteria slowly evolve into larger bacteria while creatures such as the wooly mammoth come back to inhabit the ice. Then, like we evolved from bacteria, so will the new 'people', who, you never know, could look like giant flies.

And we will all end up in the ground, covered by snow and ice.
