What game do the pros play the most? I doubt its hold'em because it is so easy to suffer from a bad beat.

  1. Hold'em is probably the best known game. Most online players start with hold em but progress to different areas. The biggest change I have noticed in recent years is the move towards Omaha High Low.

Most players start with Hold'em because it is the most commonly known game, but when they become a little more experienced, they soon learn that they can profit more at some of the other games where the experience gap is slightly wider.

The HORSE poker tournaments seem to be getting busier. We can see this by looking at the WSOP event. The $50,000 entry will ensure that one day the HORSE poker event will have a bigger prize purse than hold'em in years to come.

  2. a quick peek at FT will show you that the high stakes HE tables have been empty for a while. The new game of choice I say is Omaha.

Of course then we have to get a definition of pro player. Because there are a lot of players out there that play professionally but may be unknown to the rest of the world. And the last I heard they were still grinding NLHE.

  3. Hold'em is the game of choice.  Some of the biggest games out there are Hold'em.  This includes high stakes cash games, and the major tournaments.

But some of the big cash games and the famous HORSE WSOP event ($50,000 buy in), are often rotating games that include various different games played in rotation.

But clearly Hold'em dominates all the major tournaments and the TV these days.  You can walk into just about any sports bar in America and find a pub poker game going.  But it will almost always be Hold'em.

I don't believe it is necessarily that much easier to get a bad beat in Hold'em than other poker games.

  4. Most pros do play Hold Em. There can be bad beats in any of those games, but there is also the most money to be made at hold 'em.

Stud is a limit game and Omaha is typically limit or pot limit. Hold 'em in no limit so a good pro can make a lot of money in the long run. True there are bad beats in hold 'em but over the long haul, a good pro will win out and profit.
