  1. First don't use PREMIUM unless your car is recommended (by the factory).  The only exception is if your car starts KNOCKING. Other than that you will NOT see any benefit!

    PERIOD.

Car companies likes to call their gas "PREMIUM" to imply better quality.

    NOT!

They are just higher octane for turbo and high compression engines.  That's all

As for which brand.  I saw a TV program on history channel. And it turns out that ALL oil company put their gasoline in to one HUGE pipe in Texas, and they all pump it out of the same pipe at the other delivery ends.  In another words, they all let their gasoline mingle during delivery.  So in fact they are the same gasoline.

    Good Luck.

  2. They are both very clean.  I doubt there is much difference.  I buy BP because it is usually a little cheaper.

  3. They are both about equal, and would only use one or the other.  You are doing fine by using BP premium and I would stick with that as long as you are happy with your vehicle's performance.

The only reason that BP is not part of the 'top tier' gas program is because they did not apply for it.

The 'top tier gas program' is like a membership program where the companies that sell fuel need to pay a fee to belong.

BP chooses not to apply or pay this fee, which is why they are not listed as a 'top tier' gas.

BP is just as good as Shell in regards to quality, cleaning agents, etc.

  4. Exxon.  I used to use Mobile, but they've been bought out by Leukin.

  5. Gas is gas.  Any mechanic can tell you that there is no advantage to using one company's gas over another.  They all have enough cleaning agents.  In fact, it is not unheard of for some gas stations to buy their gas from a competitor's wholesaler.  The stuff you pump with BP is pretty much the same as what Shell has.  Which is probably the same stuff as the discount places.  BP and Shell advertise well enough to make you think there is a difference.

And as for using premium gas, the only reason to do that is if you owner's manual calls (for high preformance cars) for it or your engine is knocking (usually happens to older cars).  Otherwise, you are just wasting money.

  6. Shell is part of the Top Tier gas program so Shell may be better but I would they are pretty much the same.
