Neither.  The greenhouse gas with the greatest impact on climate is water vapour.  Methane and CO2 are present in such small quantities that their effect is too small to measure.

some sources rate it as 21 times more powerful.

this is the basis for the U.N. report that says animals are contributing more to global warming than all the cars & trucks in the world.

since the U.N. is a purely political organisation & not a science based one. do some independent research before you accept the results of any scientific studies they fund as fact.

From my understanding, methane is a far more powerful greenhouse gas, but it's released in far less quantities than CO2.

Technically methane is a stronger greenhouse gas, but much more CO2 is released into the atmosphere, so CO2 is the worst gas as far as man made global warming is concerned.

Crash is mostly right, but when you factor in power plants as well as transportation, CO2 has the greater effect.
